Canyon Speedway to Honor Mothers with a Race for the Cure
Kevin Montgomery PEORIA, Ariz. (May 2nd, 2011) – The month of May in the racing world may be synonymous with the Indianapolis 500 but May also represents a nearly 100 year old American tradition. The “Second Sunday of May” or more commonly Mother’s Day, has been the day that families honor their Mother since it became a National Holiday in 1914.
The staff of Canyon Speedway, in conjunction with “Team Freshly Squeezed” has sought to honor our Mother’s with a Race for the Cure benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the global leader of the breast cancer movement. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a non profit organization that is working to save lives and energize science to find a cure for a disease that, in 2010, had nearly 200,000 new cases diagnosed in American women.
On May 7th, Canyon Speedway will have its own version of a Race for the Cure with $5 for every ticket purchased being donated to Susan G. Komen via “Team Freshly Squeezed” and in honor of all of our Mother’s.
The IMCA Modifieds will be back in action with Jason Noll and Tim Ward virtually tied for an early season point’s battle. Noll, who clicked off two early season wins, will look to get back in victory lane and celebrate another top finish with his Mom on Mother’s Day and also honor his wife Valerie as a new Mom on her first Mothers Day.
Tim Ward has one victory in the 2011 Championship season and is anxious to get back to victory lane. Ward and, recent winner, Ricky Thornton Jr. will join a large cast of competitors from near and far all after the winner’s share of the Mother’s Day purse.
Joining the Modifieds for the Mother’s Day Race for the Cure on May 7th will be the Pure Stocks, X-Mods, Bombers and Dwarf Cars. General admission tickets will go on sale at 5pm for only $15, racing will begin promptly at 7:30pm.
