Championship Figure 8 Racing Moves to Canyon Speedway
Kevin Montgomery, PEORIA, Ariz. (June 29th, 2011) – Figure 8 racers and fans can rest easy as the long standing October tradition has found a new home at Peoria, Arizona’s Canyon Speedway Park. One of the most exciting and treacherous forms of auto racing has been a stable for Figure 8 goers for the last 28 years and with news that their home was no longer it was with great honor that Canyon Speedway Park was able to fill the void.
An agreement between legendary Figure 8 promoter Jon Sellers and Canyon Speedway Park was reached last week and the tradition will be carried on at a newly configured Figure 8 track at the North Peoria racing facility.
“The track fits perfect and this will be a great venue to hold Figure 8 racing,” commented Jon Sellers of JS Specialties Inc. “We have a few adjustments to make but we have a lot of time before October.”
The new Figure 8 Championships will join the already scheduled date for the Southwest Championship American Sprint Car Series and ASCS2 event on October 21st and 22nd.
“We are very excited to have the Figure 8 races coming to Canyon Speedway,” stated CSP Management. “Jon was able to lay out the track and we starting cutting it in right away. The track is about 75% complete at this point and we will continue working hard to get it finished and the appropriate barricades in place.”
Anthony Madrid, defending Arizona Figure 8 Champion, was able to make a few pre-race laps on the track prior to last Saturday’s Late Model event and was happy with the configuration.
“That’s a good track, perfect size and the configuration is great” stated Madrid
The Southwest Championship and Figure 8 Championship will kick off a three week span of big events coming to Canyon Speedway this fall. The October 21st and 22nd Southwest Championship/Figure 8 Championship will be followed by the Hall of Fame Classic USAC Sprint Car event on the 28th and 29th and then capped off by the Desert Classic November 4th and 5th.
