D.J. Wood Wins on Canyon Speedway’s 30th Anniversary
Racing from the sixth position Wood made his way to the front in the closing circuits to hold off a hard charging Mark Stewart and Guy Norton. A late race caution would bunch the field up on lap 21 giving way to a four lap shootout that would allow Stewart to move under Wood. Wood was able to hold off the pressure and pull away on the final lap to win his first race of the Championship year.
Stewart crossed the line just ahead of Norton with Bob Sanders and Shawn Zelenka rounding out the top five.
Ty Warner over came an early race incident that moved him to the rear of the field to win the $500 winners prize as he captured his second consecutive Pure Stock feature win of 2011. Warner would tag the field along with point’s leader Jeff Stafford as both drivers made their way through traffic to the front chasing down race leader Michael Palmo. Warner passed Palmo in the closing laps with Stafford settling for the third and final podium spot.
Kenny Gill made a last lap pass to pick up his $500 Father’s Day Super Stock 20-lap main event win with Bill Bennett and Willie Parker crossing the stripe second and third respectively to fill the final podium positions.
Joe Vlasity took home his seventh Bomber Mania win while Nick Parker was victorious in Southwest Modlite action.
