The 23rd Annual Desert Classic Gets Bigger!

(September 26th, 2011) – With the Desert Classic already set to be one of the largest paying IMCA Modified events on the west coast, it is difficult to imagine how the 23 year old event can get much bigger but with the newest addendum to the classic it will do just that.
The Super Late Models are back on the Desert Classic Schedule but with a new twist! The already thrilling event will be co-sanctioned by the Total Seal Late Model Series and the West Coast Late Model Shootout bringing two of the top Late Model Series in the western states together for a head to head showdown and a chance for Super Late Model prestige.
The stars of the Super Late Models will compete in two separate events over the course of the two day Desert Classic with the winner of Friday night’s preliminary feature event collecting $1000 and a spot in Saturday’s finale. The top six finishers from Friday will be locked into the Desert Classic Pole Dash for Saturday’s feature while the remaining competitors will return for a final chance to make the $2000 to win main event.
Along with the addition of the Super Late Models will be the Modlite “Stock 1000” Nationals that will likely draw Modlite competitors from around the country. The mighty Modlites will also compete in two separate events over the course of the two day Desert Classic with an unprecedented $1000 winners prize for each night of racing.
The previously scheduled Copper State 50 featuring the Total Seal Late Models will forego the 2011 season due to scheduling conflicts as the event will be added to the 2012 schedule.
The Canyon Speedway Bomber division previously scheduled for the Desert Classic has also been removed from the event due to scheduling conflicts with surrounding race tracks. The Bomber Mania champion will be crowned on October 1st as part of the Total Seal Late Model and Open Modified event scheduled for this Saturday.
The Desert Classic, which takes place the first weekend of November, enters its 23rd year and is a showcase for top IMCA Modified drivers across the country. The best of the Best will tackle Canyon Speedway’s 3/8-mile clay oval over the course of the two day event on November 4th and 5th with more than $50,000 in “A” Feature money alone distributed over the course of the blockbuster event.
Arizona’s Terry Belcher Jr. became the 22nd winner of the Desert Classic as he etched his name into the history books by winning the 2010 edition of the classic. Belcher is anticipated to return and defend his title against the nation’s best IMCA Modified and Super Late Model stand outs.
