R.J. Johnson Enjoys ASCS Canyon Win at CSP!

Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (October 22, 2011) – R.J. Johnson finished off Canyon Speedway Park’s Second Annual Canyon Southwest Championships by besting Saturday night’s 35-car Sunoco Fuel ASCS Canyon Region field atop the 3/8-mile clay oval.

Johnson snared his fourth wingless ASCS Canyon Region win of the year after starting from the pole position in Bobby Martin’s Proflyer-powered Weiler Farms No. 51 Maxim.

Johnson took his 12th career Canyon Region win in front of Casey Shuman, with current series points leader Jeremy Sherman, defending champion Charles Davis, Jr., and Ronnie Clark rounding out the top five.

Ryan Linder was sixth, with Rick Ziehl, Thomas Ogle, Shon Deskins and Mike Martin completing the top ten.

Josh Pelkey, Ziehl, Logan Forler and Shuman each claimed heat race wins, with Stevie Sussex and Deskins winning the “B” Mains.

Anthony Madrid picked up his first Figure 8 win of the year while Danny Price stole the Figure 8 title from John Romero by finishing behind Madrid.

Josh Shipley rode the rim to take the victory in ASCS2 action and also earned the inaugural ASCS2 Cactus Region Championship.

The USAC National Sprint Cars will join the Challenge Cup Sprint Cars for two days of Hall of Fame Classic action presented by the Parker Store.  Advanced tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling 602-258-7223.

There will be an opportunity for race fans to get a preview of the Parker Store Hall of Fame racers at an open practice slated for October 27th.  The festivities will kick off at 6:00pm with grandstand admission free for all those who want a sneak preview.
