Rain Postpones Desert Classic to Saturday and Sunday

Kevin Montgomery, PEORIA, Ariz (November 4th, 2011) – Late evening rain postpones round 1 of the Desert Classic with action resuming Saturday night and the Desert Classic finale will be contested Sunday afternoon.

The green flag will drop on Saturday nights action at 7:30pm and the Sunday finale will kick off at 1:00pm with gates opening at 10am.

IMCA Modified stars from around the country will compete in two complete events starting Friday night with the winner picking up $750 and securing a top spot in Saturday’s finale.  The top six finishers from Friday will be locked into the Desert Classic Pole Dash for Saturday’s feature while the remaining competitors will return for a final chance to make the $3000 to win main event.

The Total Seal Late Model Series will go head to head with The West Coast Late Model series in two separate events over the course of the two day Desert Classic with the winner of Friday night’s preliminary feature event collecting $1000 and a spot in Saturday’s finale. The top six finishers from Friday will be locked into the Desert Classic Pole Dash for Saturday’s feature while the remaining competitors will return for a final chance to make the $2000 to win main event.

The Arizona Super Stock Touring Series, Pure Stocks and the Modlite Nationals will join the card for a full weekend of racing action that will begin with an open practice slated for November 3rd.  Race fans will have an opportunity to get a preview of the Total Seal Desert Classic racers at 6:00pm with grandstand admission free for all those who want a sneak preview.

The Desert Classic, which takes place the first weekend of November, enters its 23rd year and is a showcase for top Late Model and IMCA Modified drivers across the country.  The best of the Best will tackle Canyon Speedway’s 3/8-mile clay oval over the course of the two day event on November 4th and 5th with more than $50,000 in “A” Feature money alone distributed over the course of the blockbuster event.

Arizona’s Terry Belcher Jr. became the 22nd winner of the Desert Classic as he etched his name into the history books by winning the 2010 edition of the classic.  Belcher is anticipated to return and defend his title against the nation’s best IMCA Modified and Super Late Model stand outs.
