Kevin Montgomery PEORIA, Ariz. (December 8th, 2011) – Just shy of a week following the official end of the 2011 Canyon Speedway race season preparations for the 2012 season are already in full swing with the 2012 rules and payouts already posted and the highly anticipated 2012 schedule expected early next week.  One major change to the Canyon Speedway staff for the 2012 season will be the addition of Tony Steele who will take center stage as the race director for CSP.

Steele, a long time supporter of CSP, will add to his racing resume that includes a stint behind the wheel as well as some racing media work with his father Pete Steele.  Tony has recently spent some time in the flag stand filling in for CSP flagman Conrad Santa Cruz and now will move to the center of the arena to take on race director duties.

“I am looking forward to this opportunity,” commented Steele.  “I hope to bring my passion and understanding of racing to the table and help Canyon Speedway continue to move to the next level of providing great events for the fans and racers.”

Steele will join the cast of Canyon Speedway for the up coming Winter Challenge that begins January 27th.

The 2012 Winter Challenge will feature top traditional Sprint Car drivers from around the country as the American Sprint Car Series faces off with the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series while IMCA Modified aces converge in the valley of the sun for what is anticipated to be one of the largest racing events of 2012.  More than $100,000 in “A” Feature money alone will be distributed over the course of the blockbuster event that kicks off with the $2,000 to win Winter Challenge opener and will conclude with the $5,000 to win finale on February 4th.

IMCA Modified participants will have the opportunity to get a head start on IMCA Points with an eight race series that will now award IMCA Championship Bonus Points.  The Winter Challenge will kick off the eight race series on Friday January 27th with six of the eight races being held at the Peoria, Arizona facility prior to moving to the final IMCA winter destination.

The final two nights of the Arizona winter season will be capped off at Yuma, Arizona’s Cocopah Speedway with the IMCA Modified Winter Nationals on Friday February 10th and Saturday February 11th.
