Kevin Montgomery PEORIA, Ariz. (February 7th, 2012) – One of the largest race weekends in the Valley of the Sun is quickly approaching and race fans are anxious to embark on a fun filled weekend featuring the stars of the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Tour and the season opener for the IMCA Modifieds.  The festivities are set to kick off Wednesday February 29th as Cowgirls Bar and Grill hosts a Wednesday night Pre-Race party that will set the stage for a fun and fast Copper Classic weekend.

Racers and race fans will have the opportunity to mix and mingle at the Avondale Bar and Grill as they feature Copper Classic drink specials from 5:00pm until 8:00pm with food specials extending all race weekend.

The Cowgirls Bar and Grill Copper Classic Pre-Race Party will launch the return of National Wing Sprint Cars to Arizona as The Lucas Oil ASCS National Sprint Car Series takes to the track for the first time in 2012 and race fans can catch all the action for less than $18 per day.  Two day advanced tickets are now on sale and race enthusiasts can take advantage of discounted ticket prices for the much anticipated return of National Wing Sprint Cars to Canyon Speedway.

Fred Rahmer graced victory lane after beating Steve Kinser in a 30-lap green to checker race at Canyon Speedway Park in 1993.  Rahmer’s victory marked the last time a major Wing Sprint Car Tour made laps around the Peoria, Arizona 1/3-mile clay oval.  Now a little more than 19 years later the wait is over with one of the hottest Wing Sprint Car National Tours in the country opening their 2012 championship season on Canyon Speedway soil as the Lucas Oil ASCS National Sprint Car Series debuts at the Copper Classic March 2nd and 3rd.

Bixby, Oklahoma’s Shane Stewart edged Albuquerque’s Johnny Herrera by just one point for the closest championship battle in the series’ 20-year history and secured his second driver’s title in three years while Jason Johnson’s JJR No. 41 team took top honors in owner points for the second year in a row.

With more than 40 of the nations top Wing Sprint Car drivers expected to take part in the season opener and top IMCA Modified drivers kicking off the 2012 Championship effort, The Copper Classic will be a must see event.
