Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (June 4, 2012) – There will some added money up for grabs as Canyon Speedway Park celebrates its 31st Anniversary with a special card of racing action this Saturday night.

Five classes of cars will take to the 1/3-mile clay oval this Saturday for Anniversary honors including the CSP Challenge Cup Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Southwest Mod Lites and Bombers.  Racing action is slated to get under way at 7:00 p.m.

The IMCA Modifieds will battle it out for a $750 winner’s share, the CSP Challenge Cup Sprint Car winner will pocket $500, the Pure Stock winner will take $500 as well and there is $200 up for grabs for the Bombers.

The IMCA Modifieds, CSP Challenge Cup Sprint Cars and Bombers all return to action at CSP for the first time since the Mother’s Day Race for the Cure on May 12, while the Pure Stocks and Southwest Mod Lites took part in the recent Salute to Indy event over Memorial Day weekend.

With four different winners in as many IMCA Modified main events, Jason Noll holds a mere 2-point lead in the championship points chase over Anthony Madrid with Cody Center, Steve Stultz and Clifton Maggard rounding out the current top five.

While Noll claimed a feature win on March 3, other Modified feature winners include D.J. Wood, Tim Ward and most recently, Mark Stewart on May 12.

The CSP Challenge Cup Sprint Cars take to the 1/3-mile oval for the third time after wins by Matt Lundy on April 7 and then Zach Sawyers on May 12.  With finishes of second and sixth, Johnny Shelton, Jr., holds the Challenge Cup points lead over Lundy and Jesse Turner, who are tied for second just four points back.  Art Mankle and Bryan Swinehart round out the current top five.

While Trenton Setelin leads Joe Peterson by three points in the Bomber ranks, John Romero and Nick Langer have claimed feature wins this season.

Parity has prevailed in the Pure Stock ranks with five different winners in as many events including Brandon Parker, Matt Martinez, Larry Price, Ty Weidner and Anthony Madrid.  And, while Chris McCurdy, Jr., and Joe Vlasity have both been denied victory lane, they find themselves knotted atop the point charts.

The Southwest Mod Lites have been unpredictable as well with four winners in as many outings including Tony Martin, Brad Weiss, Mike Ryan and A.J. Martin.
