Kevin Montgomery Peoria, ARIZ (June 15th, 2012) – Remember when!  The glory days are often re-lived by race fans and racers as they reminisce about past racing experiences and the fun times that they shared with fellow racers.  This Saturday night Canyon Speedway will bring back a glimpse of racing history as we celebrate Fathers Day with a special Race of Champions.

Saturday night will mark the return of the ASCS Wing Sprint Cars for the first time in just over two months as they join the IMCA Modifieds who have featured five different winners in as many events.  The super speeds of the Wing Sprint Cars and the fast action of the IMCA Modifieds will join the Pure Stocks, Bombers and Dwarf Cars for a full night of racing action.

Six former Arizona racing champions, a legendary flagman and one of the greatest track announcers of all time will take to the track for the Fathers Day Race of Champions and the winner will walk away with bragging rights and a new craftsmen tool set.  The top finisher will also draw a name of a father in the crowd and hand over a duplicate set of craftsmen tools.

The revenge draw will be in affect to line up the star studded field as they suit up once again for the inaugural event.  Each of the six racers, who represent more than 450 victories and over 30 championships between them, also have children that are currently competing in the racing circle.

“Mr. Excitement” leads the way with more than 10 championships under his belt and more than 200 career wins.  Terry Belcher Sr. is and will always be the race win leader of the famed Manzanita Speedway.

Ricky “The Racer” Johnson, who was inducted into the Arizona Motorsports Hall of Fame last year, makes up eight of the 30 plus championships as he won six Sprint Car titles, on Modified championship and one Midget title.  Father and son will be in action this Saturday as RJ Johnson takes on the wing forces.

“Smokin” Joe Warner captured the trifecta in 2003 winning the Manzanita and Canyon Modified Championship as well as the IMCA Modified Arizona State title.  Warner’s nephew, Ty Warner, will be in action in the Pure Stock ranks this Saturday looking for his first win of the year.

Ron Funk, a celebrated stock car builder with 41 career wins, will bring his Stock Car skills to the track Saturday night seeking his 42nd feature win while Darin Center will also be in action and accounts for 44 career wins and multiple championships.  Cody Center will be along side his Father as he currently sits third in IMCA Modified Point standings.

Ricky Thornton Sr. will join Ricky Thornton Jr., the most recent IMCA Modified winner, looking for the family victory as father and son attempt to celebrate Fathers Day with a double victory.  Thornton Sr. is a 3-time Modified Champion and has a large legacy of family racing as all three of his sons are currently competing.

Canyon Speedway will celebrate Fathers Day in grand fashion with the 2nd Annual Fathers Day Classic featuring the double header of IMCA Modifieds and the ASCS Wing Sprint Cars.  The Fathers Day celebration will kick off when general admission tickets go on sale at 5pm for only $15 for adults, Senior and Military $13, Juniors 7-12 $6 and CHILDREN 6 and UNDER are free. Racing will begin promptly at 7:00pm.
