The 24th Annual Desert Classic Gets Bigger!

Kevin Montgomery, PEORIA, Ariz. (September 10th, 2012) – With the Desert Classic already set to be one of the largest paying IMCA Modified events on the west coast, it is difficult to imagine how the 24 year old event can get much bigger but with the newest addendum to the classic it will do just that.

After kicking of the year with a successful Winter Series that averaged nearly 40 of the nations best IMCA Modified racers including winners Dylan Smith, Chris Abelson, Larry Hood, Scott Drake and Arizona’s DJ Wood, Canyon Speedway Park is expected to host an even larger cast of stars that will now attempt to lay claim to an even bigger prize as this years Desert Classic will award a $5000 winners payday.

Friday night will feature a full night of racing action with the winner securing a top spot in Saturday’s finale.  The top six finishers from Friday will be locked in for Saturday’s feature while the remaining competitors will return for a final chance to make the $5000 to win main event.

The Desert Classic, which takes place the first weekend of November, enters its 24th year and is a showcase for top IMCA Modified drivers across the country.  The best of the Best will tackle Canyon Speedway’s 1/3-mile clay oval over the course of the two day event on November 2nd and 3rd.

Arizona’s Tim Ward became the 23rd winner of the Desert Classic as he etched his name into the history books by winning the 2011 edition of the classic.  Ward is anticipated to return and defend his title against the nation’s best IMCA Modified stand outs.
