Thornton and Madrid Team Up For Western Classic Late Models
Kevin Montgomery, PEORIA, Ariz. (October 15th, 2012) – When the West Coast Shootout Late Model Series rolls into Canyon Speedway on November 9th and 10th, it will be Antony Madrid and Ricky Thornton taking a stand for their home track as they look to top the inaugural Western Classic.
Driving team cars owned by Jeff Manka, the Arizona drivers will pair up with home field advantage as they look to top the California based Late Model Series.
While both drivers are accustomed to winning at the Peoria, Arizona 1/3-mile clay oval, it was Thornton who stood tall winning the 2011 West Coast Late Model Shootout feature holding off a hard charging Mike Kirby, who picked up the Friday night preliminary feature.
Kirby will be in good company with point’s leader Clay Daly and second place point contender Jason Papich leading the charge against Arizona’s best including the most recent Shootout winner RC Whitwell.
Whitwell and Thornton have left the California stars winless in the last two West Coast Late Model outings on Arizona territory.
The Inaugural Western Classic will take place the second weekend of November and will showcase the fast action of USAC National Midgets and West Coast Late Models. The best of the Best will tackle Canyon Speedway’s 1/3-mile clay oval over the course of the two day event on November 9th and 10th.
