Stock Car Shootout Flyer 300x300Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (August 26, 2013) – Two big nights of racing action are on tap at Canyon Speedway Park as the 1/3-mile clay oval near Phoenix hosts the Stock Car Shootout this Saturday and Sunday.

IMCA Modifieds and the LoanMart Challenge Cup Sprint Cars headline the two-day tilt with Viper Smart Start Pure Stocks, Super Stocks and Renegades rounding out the action that gets under way at 7:00 p.m. on both nights.

The Pure Stocks will battle it out in a 50-lap feature event for a $1,000 winner’s share, with a $750 winner’s cut up for grabs in the 25-lap IMCA Modified feature, $500 to win the 25-lap Super Stock feature, $300 for the 25-lap Renegade feature winner and $400 for the 20-lap Challenge Cup Sprint Car victor.

Ricky Thornton, Jr., who topped the most recent IMCA Modified feature at CSP on August 17, leads the way into the weekend double with a slim five-point lead over Jason Noll, who has topped four of the most recent six events.

With Noll nipping at Thornton’s heels in the title chase, Anthony Madrid is right in the mix as well just one more point back in third with Jay Foster just 13 points off the lead pace.  Guy Norton rounds out the current top five.

A LoanMart Challenge Cup Sprint Car feature winner on July 13, Johnny Shelton, Jr., holds a two-point lead over Josh Shipley, who has topped five of ten feature events at CSP thus far in 2013.  Jesse Turner, Matt Lundy and Tanner Grau round out the current top five.

While Anthony Madrid has topped four of the last five Viper Smart Start Pure Stock features, it’s Chris McCurdy, Jr., atop the point charts with a 23-point edge over Joe Vlasity with reigning Stock Car Shootout Pure Stock winner Matt Martinez another five points back in third.

Paul O’Connor put a stop to John Romero’s reign of Renegade domination by stopping his four-race win streak last time out on August 17.  Romero holds a seven-point lead over O’Connor in the title chase.
