IMCA Championship on the Line at the MR. Excitement 40
Kevin Montgomery, PEORIA, Ariz. (September 11, 2013) – After a stellar showing at the IMCA Super Nationals, Ricky Thornton Jr. will look to seal his fate as the 2013 IMCA Modified Champion for Canyon Speedway next Friday and Saturday during the inaugural running of the Mr. Excitement 40.
A rare double header with a double headliner as the IMCA Modifieds join the West Coast Super Late Models to pay tribute to an Arizona living legend, Terry Belcher Sr. Belcher who recorded at least 10 championships and well over 250 victories around Arizona tracks earned the name “Mr.Excitement” with his thrilling driving style that led him to the title of the all-time feature event winner at the famed Manzanita Speedway.
Thornton holds a slim five point lead over “Racin” Jason Noll who has captured two of the last three Modified outings at CSP with Anthony Madrid just one point behind in third position going into the point’s finale.
Madrid, who sits second on the all-time Manzanita win list behind Belcher, will be pulling triple duty as he not only will be at the wheel of his IMCA Modified and a very potent Viper SmartStart Pure Stock but will also lead the charge against the West Coast Super Late Model contenders.
Tony Toste will rally the California based West Coast Late Model Series as they invade Canyon Speedway’s 1/3-mile clay oval for the second time this year. Don Shaw and Garrett Alberson topped the March Copper on Dirt event with point leader Toste finishing in the top five both nights.
The Mr. Excitement 40, A Tribute to Terry Belcher, will host two complete nights of fast action with West Coast Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Viper SmartStart Pure Stocks, Renegades and Dwarf Cars.
