Race Format and Procedures
Pill Draw:
All drivers draw a pill for heats. There is a pill draw fee and this money is due when you check in for the evening. Pill draw starts 15 minutes after the pit gate opens and ends 10 minutes prior to the drivers meeting will tag a heat race, but are still required to pay the pill draw fee. A pill draw fee may be changed, if it is a “Special Event”
Heats are lined up accordingly:
Stagger inverted, lowest draw to front, highest draw to rear.
For example, in filling three heat races:
Car 1 is the Lowest Draw is pole in Heat 1
Car 2 the Next Draw Car is pole in Heat 2
Car 3 is pole in Heat 3
Car 4 is 1st row outside Heat 1
Car 5 is 1st row outside Heat 2
Car 6 is 1st row outside Heat 3, etc.
Once a driver has been placed in a heat race that is the race they will be scored in Driver may not switch heat races. If you are a DNS or if you have a flat, wreck or mechanical failure, you must take whatever place that puts you in for the next qualifying race or A main.
Inversion for the A Main:
The number of heat races will determine how many cars will be inverted for the feature line up according to the heat race finish.
| One Heat Race | 5 Cars | Two Heat Races | 8 Cars - Top 4 |
| Three Heat Races | 12 Cars - Top 4 | Four Heat Races | 12 Cars - Top 3 |
The inversion starts from the 1st heat and goes thru the remaining heats in order. You must finish your heat race to allow you to make the inversion.
Note: You must be a running car on the last lap of the race to qualify for the inversion. This means if there are 8 cars in the heat and we transfer 5 and there are only 4 cars remaining (running) then the inversion will be 4 for ‘that’ heat.
For example, in we run 4 heat races:
| 1st Row | 3rd place in Heat 1 | 3rd Place in Heat 2 |
| 2nd Row | 3rd Place in Heat 3 | 3rd Place in Heat 4 |
| 3rd Row | 2nd Place in Heat 1 | 2nd Place in Heat 2 |
| 4th Row | 2nd Place in Heat 3 | 2nd Place in Heat 4 |
| 5th Row | 1st Place in Heat 1 | 1st Place in Heat 2 |
| 6th Row | 1st Place in Heat 3 | 1st Place in Heat 4 |
Remainder of “A" feature is lined up straight up from heats and/or B features.
A Main Event:
If there are 24 cars the main will line up with the inverted cars in the front rows and the remaining will line “straight” up from the heat race finishes. If there are over 24 cars we will run a B Main Event. This main will consist of all cars that did not make the inversion if the A main from the heat races. Note: The officials do have the discretion to make one main event with up to 26 cars, depending on time.
For example:
If we run 3 heat races and we have 26 cars. The top 4 cars from each heat would go directly to the main event. Then from 5th on back would go to the B Main in a “head’s up” order.
If a driver switches cars he will run scratch position.
Canyon Speedway has the option to run special races through the year with special line up procedures. If this is to happen it will be explained at the drivers meeting.
